2008 National Head Start Association Awards/Scholarships
Timeline For Submission to IHSA

 

The Illinois Head Start Association Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and selects final candidates to forward on to the Region V Head Start Association.  The Scholarship Committee adheres to rules/regulations set forth by NHSA.

In addition, the Illinois Head Start Association offers the Leota Brown and Mary Alice Buchanan Scholarships.  The recipients of these scholarships are awarded a $750.00 dollar scholarship to be utilized to further their education.  The 2008 Award and Scholarship Timeline are indicated below.

Dear Head Start/Early Head Start Director:

Great news!  The Region V Head Start Association Board met last week and has extended the deadline for Scholarship and Awards.   Thus, IHSA will extend the application deadline for all NHSA Scholarship and Awards to August 17, 2007.   Don’t miss this opportunity to recognize and celebrate success within your local program. 

The Illinois Head Start Association will recognize and celebrate all selected winners at the annual IHSA March Conference.  In addition, each selected winner receives $50.00 dollars from the Illinois Head Start Association.

The 2008 National Head Start Association (NHSA) Scholarship and Awards Booklet can now be accessed on the NHSA Web Site, www.nhsa.org under awards and scholarships.  It’s easy, just visit the web site, go to awards and scholarships and print off directions and applications with appropriate forms.

The Illinois Head Start Association Scholarship Committee will be reviewing and selecting final applications for all awards and scholarships.

All applications, with the exception of the Leota Brown and Mary Alice Buchanan scholarship/award, must be received by close of business on August 17, 2007, to be considered by the IHSA Scholarship Committee and to meet the deadline of submission to the Region V Head Start Board.  Applications must be on the official NHSA 2008 Scholarship/Awards form, www.nhsa.org.  We will not accept faxed copies.

Your agency must be a member of the Illinois Head Start Association and the National Head Start Association to be eligible for any of the awards and scholarships.  Parents applying for scholarship/awards must be from the 2006-2007 school year and must be individual members of NHSA.  Don’t forget to submit two copies and make sure application is fully completed.

Attached you will find a chart indicating all the NHSA awards and scholarships including timelines that we must adhere to.   Information about the Leota Brown and Mary Alice Buchanan Scholarships will be sent at a later date.  Please remember that all applications must be received by close of business, August 17, 2007.
