. IHSA Annual Training Conference PicturesThe Illinois Head Start Association Annual Training Conference, "Red, White and Blue .. Still Shining Through - - Head Start" held at the Renaissance Hotel in Springfield, March 26-28, 2002 was a delightful, well-attended event despite the snow. The 314 people who registered plus the 40 presenters, exhibitors and guests united for a great learning experience. The patriotic theme permeated throughout the program with the color guard, pledge of allegiance, songs, high school choir, table decorations and color schemes. The conference spotlighted the WADI partnership and the signing of an important Memorandum of Understanding involving the ACF Midwest Regional Hub Office, the Illinois Head Start Association, the Illinois Community Action Agencies, and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs. There were sessions on national Head Start priority initiatives including: fatherhood, family literacy, child outcomes, and oral health. Additionally, Region V personnel reviewed the eight national initiatives with a large audience. The presentations, overall, addressed topics of great interest and were of high quality as evidenced by the attendance and evaluations. A highlight of the conference was the "Wizard of Oz" skit by the Rockford players, which was so hilarious and meaningful it brought everyone to their feet. You won't want to miss the October 8-11, 2002 IHSA Conference in Bradley.
